We have found 5 of these in the past couple of months, they are brown with scales and they kinda look like a snake with legs. They have a triangular shaped head. When we moved out here 20 years ago, my dad found one lying up in the forks of a tree, it was about 3 feet long and as big around as my upper arm. It kinda freaked us out, and we haven't seen any more until about 2 months ago. Help!! Is it poisonous? What is it?

Knowing which area do you live will help narrow the search. We'll just work with animals that fit your description.
-Shingleback lizard: Found in most terrestrial habitat (check the first source below)
-Two ridged neusticurus (Neusticurus bicarinatus)
-Borneo earless monitor (Lanthanotus borneensis)
-Spiny tailed monitor (Varanus acanthurus)

There are only two venomous lizards in the world, the gila monster and the Mexican beaded lizard. Komodo dragons and other monitor type lizards can harbor nasty bacteria in their mouths. And blue tailed skinks can cause paralysis if a housecat eats one.

Other than that, nothing to worry about. If it's that big, though, it can probably deliver a pretty nasty bite if you try to catch it. Try getting or looking at a field guide to your local lizards if it is a native species.
