If it smokes all the time I would say the engine needs rebuilt, probably has bad piston rings and valve seals.

What color is the smoke? If it is blue, there is a good possibility that the piston rings are worn to the point that they are allowing oil to enter the cylinders where it burns with a blue color-or it could mean that the valve seals are shot, also allowing oil into the cylinders. It would be a good idea to have a compression test done to find out for sure. If the smoke is black, you have a fuel system problem that is letting too much fuel into the engine where it cannot be burned effectively. Also, keep an eye on the oil level and check to see if it has a milky look to it, as this would indicate a cracked head or bad head or intake manifold gasket allowing coolant to enter the oiling system creating a whitish smoke. Simple checks of the spark plugs and plug wires can sometimes reveal the cause-if a plug or plugs are not firing, the unburned fuel comes out the exhaust as black smoke. Depending on the actual problem, the cost to fix can be minimal to hundreds of dollars. Hope that helps.

Smoke can be caused by many different things. What color is the smoke? A blue tint to the smoke is oil burning, White smoke is water vapor and black is caused by too rich a fuel mixture.

Oil smoke can be something as simple as a clogged PCV valve, or something as serious as bad valve guides or rings. A lot of white smoke is usually caused my a bad head gasket or cracked head.

A too rich fuel mixture can be a bad injector, a sensor problem, or a clogged air filter.

The best thing to do is to have a qualified mechanic check the car, and decide what to do from there!!

could be the valve seal guides wich are o-rings on the valves to help seal it or the piston rings could be gone. is it the 2.8 or not? does it just smoke when it is idling for a while and then you go or soes it do it all the time? if you can do it yourself then it is cheap about 10 per valve or cylinder, but is time comsuming. good luck
