Most well water is perfectly safe for fish. If you chlorinate your water, you will of course have to use a dechlorinator to remove that before using it for fish, but otherwise it should be perfectly safe.

Tap water is fine if you use some conditioner purchased from your local pet store. This will neutralize any harmful chemicals to fish in your drinking water such as the chlorine. This conditioner usually includes a stress coat too.
