BobSpain has a good point, while as nearly everyone else has said, 31/50 is the exact answer, .62 looks a lot like 5/8 to two decimal places, if the the number came from plans for, say, some DIY project, then it is very likely that it means 5/8

.625 is, as near as dammit, 5/8ths. Obviously the other figure (31/50ths) you have been quoted is nearer, but not so easy to visualise. .62 is a fairly unusual figure to use, .625 is far more normal,
