You need to get them a good quality UVB light and some calcium into their diets. If you don't have UVB and it's warm outside (75o or above), take them out for natural sunlight for 15-30 minutes a day (no glass or plastic, let them out and watch them). Some degree of softness in normal in baby RES, but can't tell from here if yours are normal or not.

To be sold (legally), they have to have a shell length of 4", and by this time the shell should have hardened.

Here's a website where you can find info on RES, soft shell, and a veterinary listing for turtles by area (if you think this is necessary): http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/

I'd also suggest you repost your question in the reptiles forum (if you haven't already). You'll hopefully get a response from a user that goes by Madkins - he's the top turtle guy on the forum. He may be able to give you additional advice.

Good luck with the RES.

River Hermit is right your turtles were ill before you bought them. This disease is quite fatal, it's caused by lack of sun light and poor diet. However you can save them.

Get them out into the sunlight immediately not just for a little while. For whole days at a time. You still need to provide a shady spot for them to escape the sun and whatch the water temperature. Turtles require good diets with a calcium supplement. I feed my turtles live guppies/mosquito fish and i dried shrimp. Put a cuttle fish back bone in the tank. These are rich in calcium and your turtles should try and eat it. You really need to boost the calcium in there shells in order to save them. I would even grind some of the cuttle fish bone into a powder and put in a food source and in the water and on there shells the let them run around you living room for a while while they absorb it into there shells.

When you get ontop of your soft shell disease, put them on a normal diet like the one above and play with your turtles twice a day for half an hour in the sun. Its lots of fun and great for there health.

Cheers......Mick
