I am due in three weeks with our first child and would like to know what accessory that parents cannot live without. My husband and I want to keep the baby with us, say in the living room ,during the evening before bed or whenever we are at home when the baby is not sleeping. What do you suggest for the baby, a swing, bouncer or something else to keep him entertained and give our arm a break when he is not feeding or cuddling? And what is appropriate for a newborn to 3 months and what will he not grow out of too soon?

I already have a Baby Einstein ativity gym, the kind you lay on the floor and the baby plays with the things that hang down.

The Fisher Price Rain Forest Swing. We have twin boys and they have saved our lives in so many ways. They are not the neglectonators that people label them. Baby's want to be with people 24/7, but you are going to want to shower, eat, sleep......and if your baby is awake you can't do any of that. The swing helps your baby nap when they normally wouldn't in their crib. When they are first born they do sleep a lot, but after a month or so you are going to want to put the baby down and have them sleep some so you can have a minute to yourself. This swing is great because most swings are battery powered only. VERY expensive idea. This swing can run on batteries or plug into the wall. Trust me, bouncers are only good for when they are a little older and only good for a short period of time when you want to eat dinner or something and have her sit with you. The play mats too, pretty much suck. It is good for about 2 weeks and then they are over it. Don't get conned into the Baby Einstein thing either. Their stuff is SO.........not worth the hype. Marketing masters is what they are and not much else. Don't buy a lot up front. Wait until your baby tells you what they need, it will be clear to you as you get to know your baby. Good luck.

swings are not safe for newborns especially if they have really poor head control or if they are born early. I recommend a bouncer seat after the 3month mark. I loved my moses basket. My daughter could lay in it on the living room floor, or any other room I was in. She is 14 months old now and sometimes still curls up in it.

Probably swing #1, bouncer #2, tummy time mat #3.
Our daughter is 5 months old now, and we've gotten rid of the swing in favor of a jumperoo (at about 4 months old).

Definitely a swing in the early months. And then a Jumperoo. A little play gym that they lay under and can bat at the toys that hang down.

1. a new native baby sling- www.newnativebaby.com
2. infant seat- our baby doesn't like anything that vibrates though.
3. swing- you can guy the swing accessories for head support. We did and our baby loved hers.
We didn't buy a basinette or a crib- she sleeps with us as did our son so that was a huge savings. No need to cry it out and everyone is happy- most of all baby.

My son couldnt make it through a single evening without his swing. Also I don't know what they are called but they are like the little vibrating chair things they lay in. He really liked that too but the swing worked better.

I put my son on a 1 seater couch, with a banana/boomarang pillow on it, and him in the middle part of it, either facing out or in. He loves to be around everyone when he's awake, but isn't too fond of being down on the floor, unless someone sits on the floor with him.
He is now 4 months old, and I've done this since he was born.

definitely get a swing. it will save your life. my daughter absolutely loved hers, some kids don't though. i'm having twins tomorrow and i am hoping that they like it too! if not, i'm going to be going crazy. good luck! also, when the baby gets a bit bigger they have these really cool saucer things. it's like a walker, except it doesn't move. they can jump in it and spin around, there's toys all around it. my daughter loved it too.
