you get 9 months off all together it just depends how you take it off, you can take a few months before and after but you cant take no more then 9months with "pay" you can work all the way up to your due date and have the whole of the 9months off.
this is how it works in uk anyway

Statuary Maternity Leave (SML) is 12 months. Your teacher may return before this if she wishes but doesn't need to inform the school until 4 weeks beforehand. It all depends on your teacher and her family she may not come back. The other thing that may effect her decision is that she will only be paid by the goverment for the first 6 months the rest will be unpaid.

It depends. Usually maternity leave is 3 months, as that is what FMLA ensures that everyone has the right to take without fear of losing their job. But it can vary based on the employer, and what the employee and employer decide upon. Some places will allow someone to take a full year.

In the US, a lot depends on your employer. Some provide paid maternity leave, many do not. The Family Medical Leave Act provides up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for qualified employees http://www.employer-employee.com/fmla.html

It can be up to six months, although employers can require an undertaking from the employee that she will (medical and certain other conditions excepted)return to work -- although this may not be to exactly the job she left

Usually maternaty leave is about 12 weeks, so she should be back soon. Though if she wants or needs to extend her leave for any reason then she can.

Usually it's 6 weeks. Maybe she decided to stay at home with her baby. That does seem a bit long.

They're obliged to hold her job open for up to a year, after that she has to come back, or leave the job permanently.
