You people who think the universe is infinite are kidding yourselves. In fact, there is a theory that it is like a rubber band and will someday bounce back. So do research before you answer that the universe is infinite. EVERYTHING ENDS PEOPLE

From what I have read, the universe is NOT infinite, merely so hugh as to be incomprehensible to the human mind. Also, many scientists believe that there are other universes out there. There are many theories: 1 stating the the universe is constantly expanding; another says that like a rubber band, it will eventually collapse back upon itself, which is what happens with old, decaying stars in certain circumstances.
To me, the real answer lies in the fact that while some people claim that things are getting better and better (e.g., humans are now "smarter" than the ancestors) the truth is if one reads such books as "The Neanderthal's Necklace", humans are not as smart as before, and no where near as strong. The idea of this is two fold: experts are often wrong and (applying the theory that things are getting better and better to astronomy) they are NOT infinite and things are deffinitely coming to an end!

Whether or not the Universe is finite is more complex than you represent. The Universe that we can know, that is, the part of the Universe within our event horizon, is finite, and will always be finite. As the expansion due to Dark Energy proceeds, the amount of material within our event horizon may decrease with time. At present, however, the amount of material within our event horizon is increasing, and every day we see more material that we could not have known about yesterday. This suggests that the Universe is certainly bigger than our event horizon, and theories of "early inflation" indicate that it may be *much* *much* bigger. In terms of our admittedly incomplete theories of physics, we expect that the fundamental laws of physics change at distances about 10^21 lightyears, a size far larger than our event horizon. Beyond that, we do not know, although there really is no reason to expect that the Universe is finite, and some reason to expect it may be infinite (try googling "continuous eternal inflation"). In any case, the Universe is arranged so that we will never know for sure.

In that thinking, use a circle or a sphere as a sample...you can start in one place, go all the way around and end up it the same place you started, but that is only where you started...it has no beginning or end. Any circle, or actually a loop, is capable of having no beginning or end. If you have a closed loop, you have a circle; if you have an open loop, you will never find an end. Most thinking is too three-dimensional...you have to consider time and other possible dimensions.

Why so confrontational Boz? Btw, are we talking in terms of time or space here? Both? Do you know what a nincompoop is? Is the only purpose if your question to find out how many people disagree with your theory? Are you concerned with the end coming within our lifetime? Give some substance to your question, would you?

The "end of the world" is a metaphor should not be taken literally; As you know, the time of Kings and Queens has essentially ended, though it remains a process, democracy, consultation and the betterment of mankind is a part of the "new world." This is a process that will not happen overnight as many may think. The Holy Bible and Holy Quran (Koran) are filled with metaphors such as this, but these metaphors should not be taken literally. We are now entering the "new world," although it may take a few more centuries for us to reach peace on earth "as it is in heaven."

Hmm, can you prove your statement with something else besides this "theory" you're speaking of? You, my friend, just walked into a logical fallacy-you can't provide concrete evidence to support your belief, so it's easier to discern the logicality of the opposite argument. Grow up.

Just because the universe is infinite, doesn't mean that it won't end. it will end. From disentigration. but it won't happen for a long time. actually about.
