Since this is in 0/0 form, use L'Hopital's rule:
lim(x->2) (√(x + 7) - 3) / 2(x-2)
= lim(x->2) (1/2) (x + 7)^(-1/2) / 2
= (1/2) (1/√9) / 2
= 1/12.
