You shouldn't hit a child for discipline because then you would just be teaching your child that it's alright to hit.The proper way to discipline a child if they are babies you pull them away from the object they are getting into you tap their hand and say no no.If they are a little bit older and know better you should give them a time out such as...send them to their room, sit them in a corner,or make them sit on the couch with no TV or music for 5 to 20 minutes. Then come back after the given amount of time and tell them to say sorry for what they did and if they don't you make them sit there for more time until they say sorry.Every time you come back you should tell them what they did was wrong and tell them not to do it again.

It really depends on the child. Some children can be disciplined with a few words. They seem to get the message. Others I do think require a spanking every once in a while. Some kids do well with time outs. It just depends on the nature of the child. But I don't believe in beating a child,EVER! Nor do I believe in degrading and belittling a child.

Child gets time out 1 minute for each year of age. This is for kids over 3. I do not believe in any discipline for children under 3.

That's not a question that can be answered easily. The first thing to take into consideration is that kids are individuals, too. Also, thinking about consequences usually escapes people when they're facing a new situation. However, I learned the hard way that sometimes it's better to spank if the child doesn't know enough to have things explained to him/her; however, this practice should decline as the child gets older. But that's just my opinion; since I don't have kids, I can't tell you if it really helps or not.

Time out, or saying no sometimes is the best way. You can't always let children get what they want. Once they realize they can't have a new toy every time you go shopping or that it's impolite to hit someone, they learn to not do those type of things anymore.

It depends. If mine fight over a toy that toy is taken away for the rest of the day. I have a problem with my two year old getting in the fish tank so he gets a spanking for that because it is dangerous. Whatever punishment you use you should use it everytime for that same behavior so they know what happens if they do it. If you spank them once for someting then spank them everytime they do that. If you put them in tim out then be consisten with that. I don't like spanking my children but when they do something that is dangerous like playing in the fishtank or try to sneak out the front door they get spanked. (with hand of course) If it's something petty I take something away......time out has never worked for me.

In a way that respects the dignity of that child as much as your concern for the child.

I believe that timeouts work best. How ever old the child is that is how long they need to be put in time out.

My dad used to ignore me for a day or two to let me know that he was mad at me.
I was only spanked once and I was too young to remember it. Although, I never bit my mom again!
