I may not have understood correctly because of your poor grammar, but by saying what I think you are, you are stooping to the level of the unreasonable fundamentalists you apparently don't care for much. I am an atheist, and while I don't appreciate being proselytised either, saying you'd like to be rid of them isn't going to help anything. You just get ignorant answers like, "We'll all be praying for you," et cetera. Also, I don't appreciate you sticking the atheist group as a whole with such a small minded opinion. It takes all kinds (even religious people who have a hard time thinking because their brains are indeed packed with too much religion and not enough common sense) to make the world turn. Live and let live.

As an atheist, I must say I disagree with your tone. Not all atheists spit such venom about religion and spirituality. The same lessons and observations that led me to be an atheist might have led someone else to be a devout Jew, Christian or Muslim. Religion is important to many people, and it's not right to even take away someone's beliefs if it means making their lives bleak and miserable. I dated a born again Christian, and tried as well as I could to understand the religion. But I never tried to take away his faith, because I saw what good it did in his life. I couldn't bring myself to share that faith, but I respected it. I saw it gave him hope, a sense of purpose and a community. As an atheist, I also have hope and a sense of purpose, but it's grounded in other things besides belief in a god. Atheists who try to proselytize their non-belief give atheists a bad name. Just as non-believers don't like others trying to jam religion down their throat, those who profess a belief in God don't want others trying to take a foundation of their life away. It's just not nice. And it goes against any Golden Rule, both religious and secular.

I wouldn't call them "loons". A lot of them are just kids going to bible school and they take everything they're being taught as the one and only truth. I HOPE they learn otherwise before they're totally indoctrinated.

It's getting harder and harder to believe you are not just some young person trying to be something that your not. An adolecent boy perhaps not a 51 year old woman as you say you are.

Being religious has more to do with repetitive, ritual actions of an individual, as opposed to those that truly worship God. True, the word "religion" can be used to describe a belief system, but belief and works are two different things. I am not required to do anything to get my faith on, God in His infinate wisdom gives me my faith in Him daily.

I believe you once called me judgemental, however, I ask you, are you also as guilty of being judgemental yourself? Is your opinion the only one that counts?

I read about a man like that in the 1940's He came from Austria, and started out his professional life as a painter. Somehow he later became the chanselor of Germany, and was almost the leader of the free world. His party was the Nazi party, his name was Adolf Hittler, no one in his circle had the intestinal fortitude to oppose him or his ideals. He was responsible for the deaths of millions of people, just because of their belief in God, their only crime was being Jewish.

I am a Christian, I am proud of my beliefs, I don't try to hide my beliefs or who I am behind pranks or jokes. If anyone on Y A/A disagrees with me they are free to do so. But just as you advocate tollerance for your beliefs you must be able to have tollerance for others. If that is not the case the you and Adolf have much in common.

Sorry to all you other posters, I don't mean to get off on a rant, however I trust many of you are here to make a difference, to those of diferent ethinic backrounds and creeds. To tell your truth and not hide behind a false immage of who you want people to think you are. In the south where my herritage is from they have a name for that type of person too, begins with a K and ends in hate. That's the part of my past that makes me angry, my closed minded southern relatives and the way they treated a people that did not choose to be what they were, that in some areas of this same great country today people of the white culture still look down on others because of their RACIAL herritage, not sexual choices. And this is what you question my beliefs about, and call me religious because I spoke up to you in public and in private about your views on sexuality, concerned for you well being and in the process when you can't accept a concept you attack it.

I speak for many Americans, people of all races and creeds that need to come out of the closet and say those morally bankrupted individuals that want to promote a sexual agenda based on CHOICE ONLY, not biological truth but CHOICE, We shall overcome, deep in my heart, I do believe that we shall overcome some day!!! We dont want your unatural sexual ideas in our schools any more, we don't want them in our churches, we don't want our young children exposed to behaviors that in some places would be considered illegal (and I talking about California mind you).

I personally dont want it shoved in my face anymore than you want to hear us say"Jesus loves you". But the truth is He does love you, He is just not happy with the practices you got goin on.

Sorry for the long reply, hope I didn't misspell to many words.

al 4 now B.

Addt'l: Kuddos to you Jessica, I would have thought you would have booted me by now, and thanks to all you athiests that are open minded about a persons right to speak his or her mind.

Why do you want to get rid of them?

They are lame, they are goofy. But what do you mean get rid of them?

Their belief makes them feel good. I pity their children, but they have parental rights, human rights, etc.

Just let people be, okay?

I'm an Atheist and I don't want to get rid of them, like they'd like to get rid of us. I'd just like for them to keep their religion to themselves.
