IF he doesn't belong, then why not start a movement to erase Mickey Mantle and Willie Mayes from the hall? Both worked for the Claridge Casino in Atlantic City and were 'suspended' from baseball during their employment there during the 80's. They were put on the 'permanently ineligible list', yet were reinstated by Peter Ueberroth in 1985 after only 2 years. Rose has been on that list for 18 years. His time has come.

I agree with you. I think the first thing that has to happen is we need to get this idiot bud selig out of here. He is talking about not supporting or attending the breaking of the biggest record in baseball. Bonds is not the only user and Selig and others need to quit acting like he is and or was. Selig is a complete idiot. Oust him and put Rose in!!!!

Mantle and Mays were long retired when Kuhn, stupidly, imposed their suspensions. Ueberroth did very much the right thing by reinstating them ASAP.
Rose, meanwhile, continues to endure Permanently Ineligible status.
Rose's ineligibility to be considered for the Hall has nothing to do with his performance as a player. His stats are NOT what keeps him out; nor do his stats grant him a waiver around his particular roadblock.
Rose can be reinstated when (a) he's innocent, (b) he unbreaks Rule 21, or (c) "permanent" expires.
MLB should never, NEVER let him back in. The Hall, which is not a division of MLB, is really a much less important and less interesting issue, really does sidestep the question by grafting its own eligibility requirements onto whatever MLB says constitutes eligibility. Cowardly, but that's how the Hall wants to do it.

The penalty for what he did (betting on a game involving his team), is a lifetime ban. It's one year for betting on other games. That is the rule. 21(d), posted in every clubhouse. Pete Rose knew it, knew the consequences, and broke it. Major League Baseball is following its rule.
It doesn't help that Rose has changed his story numerous times over the years. He had so many opportunities to set the record straight, to look like he had changed himself, but he never did that. He shifted, he no-commented...at least until he wrote a book and he profited off of it.
Besides, he did admit in his book that he betted on games involving his own team. Now, the idea seems OK, put your money where your mouth is, but there's a catch; maybe you're changing how you play or manage games on which you have a bet.
Folks, you can't do that. It's as simple as that. That's the rule.

Having my trash picked up once a week on time is MUCH more important that Pete Rose or ANY hall of fame. Who cares about that drivel?
=======================================
Okay, derrick you want a real answer..? It is because rose is a lying cheating piece of shiit who doesn't deserve to even be allowed to WATCH baseball. He cheated on games, which means that all the games he was a part of have questionable conclusions, and all the games after those games are based on lies. He is a piece of crapola and deserves shame and not fame.
People are all over Bush for weapons of mass destruction, but you want an admitted liar, a dishonest man, to be a role model for future generations.. you are a clown.

Major league baseball no longer considers Pete Rose an issue at all. So why should we?

Because he gambled on baseball. On his own team's games. MLB doesn't like that. Rose is out no matter what his stats and reputation as a player are.

First of all the man has been banned from professional baseball. Once and if that ban is ever lifted than you may ask this question. Until then this is a dead issue.

In the end I guess baseball felt a real need to make an example of someone and ol' Petey was it. It sucks, and its unfair, but it is life. Personally Pete will always be a HOFFER to em.

Pete Rose should be and deserves to be in baseballs hall of fame, no matter gambling, his career stats, and his contributions to baseball cannot be ignored.

imho.....Pete Rose won't get to see himself enshrined. I believe that once he dies, he'll be reinstated, and subsequently put in the HOF. It's a shame, but he HAS been banned for life.
