I was reading and the new Apple computers can run different types of Operating Systems with an approved licesned copy. Does this mean I can play The Sims2 on the Apple computer even though it runs for Windows XP? Please tell me so! I really want one for college, gaming, photo and video editing. If you want to, please tell me the positives and negatives with a new Apple laptop computer.
Tell me what is a good Apple laptop that is the newest. And if you could, give me the website to view the Apple computer! Thanks!

Dear friend,
It sounds like you want an Apple and I will tell you why based on your interests!
The Sims 2 is available for OS X!
http://www.apple.com/games/articles/2005/06/thesims2/
And even if you don't want to go out and by a whole new version of the game, you can install Windows XP with Boot Camp, Apple's solution for running two operating systems on any Intel Mac. The downside with Boot Camp is that I must run either Windows or OS X at start up. I can't run both at the same time. There is another solution called Parallels Desktop, which allows you to run OS X and Windows simultaneously. Parallels Desktop is about $70.
I won't lie, gaming on a Mac is almost nonexistent. But you can install Windows and play Windows games on an Intel Mac.
But for the photo and video editing, a Mac is totally the way to go! Just the built in Creative Apps like iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD will get you up and running for making professional quality videos and even pods for YouTube!
But if you are going to school for video production or art making, then there should be no question really. Get a Mac if you are making Art, even if your university demands you buy a PC laptop. Buy the PC Laptop if you must, sell it on eBay for a profit, and get a Mac with the money. Or if you are a bit defiant like me, then buy the Apple and tell your school you know better than they do.
Most campuses now offer support for OS X. Really the only things you will need to do with a Mac in terms of a campus is connect to the campus networking and printers and email. You campus should have online tutorials for setting this up on a Mac or a computer help desk that can service you. Setting up such services is similar to a PC, maybe even a bit easier.
OFFICE is available on OS X. There is even a free and open source version called OpenOffice. But if you need to make a presentation, Keynote on a Mac blows PowerPoint out of the water!
Your MP3 player doesn't seem compatible with OS X at first glance, but maybe a deeper search will find a solution.
Get a 15" MacBook Pro with at least 1GB of RAM, glossy screen, APPLE CARE is a must! MacBooks in comparison do not handle video as well, since the video card is actually part of the motherboard and not its own device. MacBooks also have smaller screens and are designed for the casual user.
here is the one....
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&mco=D2D493CA&node=home/macbook/macbook_pro
BTW, Apple offers Student discounts and loans and always has Back to School specials where they will offer you a free iPod or printer.
Did this help?

Ah the age old debate, I love it!!
Apple and other PC are like Stick Shift and an automatic on a car. The Apple's are really great because you are able to do what you want to do (provided you know how to use one). I have used Apple computers for 10 years now and usually when some one says "programs don't work" or "computer crashes" is when they don't know how to work an Apple.
Apple pro's
-long lasting
-less likely to catch a virus(still get virus protection though)
-can personalize your apple to accommodate what you need
-well made structurally
-newer models can now use both Windows & OS operating systems
-yes! word will work on new Apples
-I-Tunes is really compatibly for i-pod but you can still get your music by diving into your mp3 i-tunes folder and add music to your mp3 the good old manual way.
Apple Con's
-Will crash if you use it like a PC (meaning you have to set your settings because it won't do it automatically like windows, Example- How much RAM you need to make Word Work sufficiently) However there are many different tutorials on the net to help you out.
-Price, Come on it's Apple and it's quality but still expensive.
-Newer models may indeed be able to use both Windows and OS but this is new and with all new software there is bound to be glitches so nothing is %100.
-Prejudice, I mean this not as a joke but because when you get one almost everyone has an opinion on apples and generally it is negative because no one knows how to make them work.
To put everything into perspective for you if I went out and tried to drive a 2006 chevy corvette (manual transmission) and drive it like an automatic I would be pretty angry when the transmission fell out. I might even blame the car and manufacturers if I was ignorant of how a stick shift works.
Also trust me Since apples are used for editing and multimedia and if they do crash so much then why we would use them? we would be rebooting our computers every 30min or loosing hours of work if they crashed so much and in an industry that time is of the essence that would be counter productive.
Get a Mac Book Pro if your going to get a laptop, I would just get the least expensive of the three (15" screen) because your not going to really need the power.
sorry this is so long but I could carry on for an hour talking about these computers.

Why do you ask a question trying to find someone who will repeat your thoughts word for word? Just install Windows on it, and then you can play your games all day long. Don't any of you PC geek Mac-haters understand that Apple computers can run Windows? As for iTunes sorting, all you do is make the folders as you wish, and change the iTunes preferences (that's equal to Windows "properties") to not arrange. It will then use YOUR arrangement. If you need to have a separate list of files and folders (I don't, because all my files are in folders), just download the free "MuCommander". It can be set to make your file management look like Windows Explorer. As for you guys always comparing GHzs and graphics and ignoring everything else, you needn't get so hot under the collar just because someone buys a different brand of computer than you, and thinks it has some qualities that are better than HP for the same GHz. If someone buys a BMW, do you rant on and on about how Chevys have the same number of wheels, so the specs are clearly the same? Give it a rest and let people do what they want, live where they want, and vote how they want. Don't pull a gun and kill everyone who isn't like you. If you do, we'll have to send you to Norway. Since you have no earthly use for this gift from your parents, tell them you want to give it to charity. No one is putting a gun to your head to make you use it. Get a job and save money to buy an Alienware or whatever.

From many years experience in graphic design, I will tell you this: If you don't mind a machine locking up every time you try to use it; if you don't mind that half it's software won't do what it is supposed to do; if you don't mind having to buy specific peripherals just for your computer (can't go to walmat on this one) then Apple is the way to go. Otherwise, get a decent quality pc and enjoy the freedom.
