what are the steps to replacing the fuel filter? do i need to disconnect the battery?

It's pretty straight forward.

I recommend using a "line wrench" on the smaller fittings.
They are usualy pretty tight.

The fuel line to the tank will slide back a little to make it easier to replace the filter.

Make sure you don't loose the little Orings on the metal fuel line when you remove the fuel filter.

Make sure you put it on in the right direction.

And be sure to have an old towel handy because there WILL be gas spilled out as you remove the old one. (half a cup or so)

When you start the truck, expect it to die a few times untill all the air is bled out of the system.

Check for leaks.
