If you can see the car behind you in the side view mirror, then it is incorrect. There is a reason they call it a "side view" mirror, and it is not to see the side of your car.

Ranting because I got cut off today by some idiot changing lanes. She had her mirrors adjusted to see behind her, so she could not see me coming up on the left when she changed lanes.

u r correct and i do have mine set to see the lane beside me. and for those of u who don't know, the rear view mirror is on ur windshield facing the rear window

You're supposed to adjust the side mirrors so you can see cars to the left and right of your car, not behind you. Even though you're supposed to look when you change lanes anyways, you check the mirrors first because the chances are high you'll see the person you're going to cut off and you won't have to bother looking. The rear view mirror is of course so you can see directly behind you're car.

I let my daughter drive my car so she can adjust them. She can do it better than I can. That goes for the rear view mirror too.

relax guy it's called a blindspot, doesn't matter how your mirrors are adjusted, there will always be one, it's why yer supposed to crane your neck before switching lanes.
