I agree. The Europeans are getting tired of unfettered socialism where it is those who work who are carrying the load for those who don't while getting less of the social benefits.

How can Sarko be better than Segolene? Literally everybody who stood apart from Lepen is better than Sarko.

Sarkozy authorised the use of very heavy handed tactics by the police against the inhabitants of les banlieues, people he described as "scum". This is not a man of peace any more than Bush brings peace to Iraq through war. Sarkozy will further outline in relief every single problem that exists in France today. He will further ostracise immigrants and Muslims, the poor and disadvantaged, will reinforce France's uncompromising stance on all issues and continue with Chirac's "if it's broken and nobody makes too much of a fuss - don't fix it"

I am a republican in this country, anything but in the USA and in France I would be a Royalist.
I was horrified. Why would France elect a small minded, brutish man who has the instincts of the Thatcher nightmare we once suffered. He will divide the nation and be the direct result of much civil unrest. His agenda is to promote American style capitalism. A philosophy quite devoid of any sense of moral responsibility.

I can't shake the feeling that Sarko will cause a negative impact on France as a whole, at least in his first couple of years in office. He reminds us Brits of Margaret Thatcher, who replaced a labour government who created high unemployment, busted economy and huge social problems (much like France today) with an extreme-capitalist, bordeline fascist series of policies (she was nicknamed the Milk Snatching Nazi) and many lived in poverty for many years.

As I said before, France generally had a bad lot. Royal would have done little to solve France's problems and Le Pen would have thrown France to the dogs with his extreme right wing policies. The problem with democracy in today is the public are voting to keep out who they don't want in government, rather to get in who they do want.

I'm going to say not so good. Sarkosky was on telly this morning saying he wanted to represent all the people of France, including those who didn't vote for him. I can't see that happening, especially with his hatred towards immigrants and the poor.
Funny that his policies also remind me of Thatcher...all he needs now is the handhag...

Big improvement over all recent French Presidents. Of course that isn't saying much, sort of damning him with faint praise.

I wonder how he'll govern France since half the country deeply hate him as no President in France has never been hated.

He's the best thing that has happened to France since a long time. I am proud of having voted for NS. He's the best who can deeply shake France. I am, for once, proud of belonging to this wonderful and democratic nation...
