Sometimes mocking birds chirp all night. Even though they are day birds. I guess they get insomnia

Well it could be a bird or any number of other nocturnal creatures... I will give you some links to sounds of nocturnal birds and such so you can listen and try to find out that way..

Birds... http://www.uwgb.edu/birds/wbba/speciesaudios.htm

There are several common owl sounds as well as other birds you might want to check out the call such as the Whipoorwill, and Nighthawk both birds that call at night.

Frog species of New York, just click on learn more and then Listen to hear the sounds the frog makes.. http://www.nwf.org/frogwatchUSA/frogs_state.cfm?showstate=ny#frogs

Here is a great site with all owl species and their calls... http://www.owlpages.com/sounds.php

Good luck! It can be challenging to identify an animal by its call..

Unless you see the bird, you cannot know it is a bird. It could be a tree frog.
