Sidney Crosby, PIT - Helped turn a franchise around along with the help of year after year of amazing drafts. His vision on the powerplay is just simply amazing, recorded 48 assist on the power play, which is over half of his total assists on the year
Joe Thornton, SJ - best passer in the league without a doubt, noone sees the ice like he does not even the kid, 188 assists in the past two years( 96 & 92), to even get close to those totals you have to go back to 2002-2003 when Forsberg put up 77. 3-1 assist to goal ratio... no-one sees the ice like him
V. Lecavalier, TB - not sure how "amazing" he is individually but him and St. Louis sure do make a great tandem. He also had an amazing year while the others are concrete at the top of the list in the NHL, last year he was 39th in points
Dany Heatley, OTT - natural sniper by trade, but has really developed a great vision of the ice playing with J. Spezza and D. Alfersson, OTT has three players in the top 15 in pts this year, making them arguably the best line since the 2002-2003 Naslund/ Morrisson/ Bertuzzi line.
Alexander Ovechkin, WAS - best individual talent in the game by far, he has absolutly noone on his team, meaning that night in and night out all the opposition has to do is shut him down and single him out, and he comes out after his amazing rookie season and still tallies 46 goals going against the best defense the league has to offer every single game?! thats unheard of, at least all the other players have some talent to shoulder the burden of going against the best every shift... no such luck for ovechkin, he is just pure skill

While I'm not going to argue with those who do this for a living, I would put Hemsky, who is underrated as a playmaker, above Frolov, Kariya, and Ribiero, who aren't even the best on there teams and I'm not sure belong in the top 50. But as you said, there is a small difference in points. I must really be out of the loop. When did Scott Niedermayer re-sign with New Jersey? He's a Free Agent as well come July 1st, isn't he? Where is Mark Striet? Is he the highest Islanders player? If you get a chance.... Thanks very much for posting, LITY

1. Lecavalier (unreal ability on the ice, if u watch this guy throughout the season u have to make the argument that he is at the top)
2. Crosby (amazing youngster, could be one of the greatest of all time)
3. St. Louis (Right up there with Vinny)
4. Ovechkin (Great scoring skill)
5. Jagr (one of my least favorite players, but u gotta give credit where it's due; still one of the best in the league)

Crosby (turned around the Pittsburgh franchise almost by himself)
Ovechkin (doesn't have superstars on his line the way most other scorers do)
Lecavilier (pure goal scorer)
Heatley (ditto)
St. Louis (just get the puck to Lecav)

Joe Thornton
Sidney Crosby
Joe Sakic
Marian Hossa
Martin St. Louis
All these players can score, pass, have unreal skills, but also play just as well in their own end defensively and possess huge leadership abilities so I would pick these guys. They all make players around them better too, instead of being one-player shows.
