I haven't got an Ethernet card on my PC. So, I need to connect
my (DSL 2320B) adsl modem via usb. But I'm not getting any connectivity. The Link lamp stays ON steadily, but still it says error: 678.
I've got BSNL's DataOne broadband. So, I asked BSNL if they could help. But they couldn't be of much help.
I need to know how this modem could be configured to work on usb with BSNL's broadband. Could you help?

When you connect a broadband modem using USB you need to install the drivers and connection software on your computer, unlike using ethernet were the modem will connect to your computer not needing drivers......

First of all check if TCP/Ip protocol stack is really installed in you PC
For this type this command in command prompt

ping 127.0.0.1

If it works, you'll get reply that ping successful.
If it doesnt, you dont have basic protocol necessary to use internet/networking

I now assume that you are using Windows XP
1) Then open conrol panel--add remove programs,
there choose --add window components
2) Put in your Windows CD. Cancel the setup if it comes
In add windows components menu
3) From there select Networking Components and click Next
They'll get installed
4) Restart and agin try to connect
If it doesnt work thendo this

1) Connect all cables properly, make sure all are tight, LEDs are blinking properly

2) Install the modem drivers using the CD

3) In my network places. Make a new broadband connection, filling in necessary details

4)Now try pinging 127.0.0.1 and then 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
If ping command is successful, your computer is working fine and ready for net

If it still doesnt, you better go and buy a network card. They are very cheap..200 Rs or so (4-5 $)
It gives better connectivity than USB

You are better off either buying an ethernet card as they are very cheap now, the USB performance is poor in comparison and there are often problems with the USB drivers under IE7.
