It means that if you don't have the courage to take a chance that you'll never have the chance to be a hero. You can apply that to any career, lifeview,etc. It will always make sense.

Basically, if you do not have the courage and go for something that you may be uneasy about doing or saying. You will not overcome whatever it is that you want to say or do, but you are too scared to do so. So, that is why they say "no guts, no glory".....

It means that if you aren't willing to take a chance at something, in the end you don't really deserve the glory because you were too chicken to do anything.

I think to have guts used to be worded something like this: to have the ability to stomach something... but not exactly like that.
I think it used to mean having strong guts. Almost exactly like the show fear factor, you had to have the ability "to stomach" something, before going onto the next round and eventually win.
I believe it used to mean that you had to have a strong belly, which literally means you are able to take a punch in the stomach and still be able to stand.

IT'S AN OLD PHRASE THAT MEANS IF YOU DON'T LITERALLY OR FIGURATIVELY SPILL YOUR GUTS AS A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE, THEN YOU WON'T BE GETTING ANY GLORY FROM THE EFFORTS.
