Yes. I am Scottish and my family has been traced back to the 1600's. My mothers side comes from a conglomeration of the Gunn and MacKay clans (a bit strange I know seeing as these two weren't on the BEST of terms) and my fathers side is from the clan Buchanan. I know that some of my ancestors were cattle and horse smugglers on the Scottish and English border (from the Buchanan clan) and were part of the Border Reivers.

That's a hard question because you didn't qualify how far back. When you compound generations that's a lot of people from a lot of places. Best I can answer is they were all R1b & R1a Euros before migration to the new world and I know where pretty much each came from, even the two that came into the mix post-Revolution. I don't know how each one could be researched back without familiarity with the history of the times and places of each generation.

My family came from Europe, England, Wales mainly, probably Scottish and Irish too, mainly English. We seem to be constantly on the move for centuries, returning back to England at times, then at some times emigrating as if for safety to places such as Barbados, Australia.

The only branch of my family tree that anyone talks about is a great grandmother who's ancestor was one of the founders of RI. He had been imprisoned in the Massachusetts Bay Colony because he was an Anti Baptist. I share this ancestor with about 100,000 other Americans, so it is not really very special. Other than that I have 2 grandparents born in Denmark and one who is 2nd generation English.

One of My Uncles done a big search into My Mothers side which indicated a linkas far back as the 11th Century but then records got murky on that side. On My Fathers side we can trace back as far as the 16th Century but no one has tried further.
So far I am glad to say that the Family on both sides is of English Stock with if Mothers is right Norman roots there.

My family were agricultural labourers on Salisbury Plain, England from at least the 17th century until the mid 19th century. Due to the agricultural depression in England, caused by cheap wheat from America and Australia, my branch of the family moved to East London where my grandfather eventually had his own french polishing business. Another branch moved to the Isle of Wight and yet another emigrated to Canada where, I am told, they were among the founders of the town of Guelph, Ontario. One of the descendants of this branch became Prof of Math(s) at McGill University.

I've research my family back to 1700's and one line have always been in Manchester, others from the midlands (coal miners, who then moved to Manchester), some Irish a little of everywhere really.
I have uncovered many family secrets as well as a rumor that we are related to Lady Jane Lane!

I know that my mother comes from an old family from Hastings in Sussex that have been fishermen for centuaries. They were allegedly here before the Norman invasion in 1066. On my father's side his paternal great-grandparents were English and his maternal grandparents were Russian.

I know that my family originated north of York (England), and that it has been in North America since the 1640's (Omar is a nickname). Taking it much further than that would entail writing a book!
