Find an open end wrench that slides over the shaft, and tap up on it at the base of the knob with a mallet or hammer.

Assuming you are trying to remove the shifter it will be done at the base of the shifter at the large nut on the side, removing this nut will allow the pin that holds the shifter to the stub on top of the transmission to be removed, tapping on it lightly so as not to damage the threads for the nut... the actual knob is splined and with considerable force can be removed....

But a new one and see how it's attached....threaded or not.
Column shifter knobs are usually pounded onto the shaft with a rubber mallet....if you soak it in hot water for a while it will expand and be easier to install. Remove the old one by grabbing it with a large channel-lock pliers and twist/pull or break it off. Paul
