Would it be safe to plug 2 powerstrips into 2 different outlets right next to each other?

no, it can create a short. Short results in a spark. Spark can create fire.

When receptacles are close to each other, usually it means that they are in the same circuit. Each circuit can provide up to 20 amps continuosly but it is not recommended to be loaded to more than 80% of its capacity. You can plug two power strips to the same circuit (I mean two receptacles close together) without any problems as long as the total amount of load doesn't exceed 80% of 20 amps (for safety). That includes all the other items that are plugged to that same circuit that are usually located in other rooms. Remember also that the circuit that powers those receptacles could be also powering your lights and you have to include them on the total load. The worst thing that can happened is that you burn your house down by overloading the circuits and get killed in the process so, please play it safe.

It would depend if each outlet is on a different circuit and what you were going to plug into them.
If it is computers then it should be OK.

I guess that the two P-strips are for your computer "stuff" and YES .. this is a safe thing to do ---- what you plug into the strip for the computer hook-up is low power and the P-strip will auto-shut off if there is a problem ____ plug up and go ....

If the receptacles are wired and fused properly it will be ok. Worst case you will blow a fuse or trip a breaker.

I wouldn't do that because it doesn't sound good and you probably don't want to take huge risks like that!
