There are electric shavers, and there are electric razors. I don't know exactly which kind you are talking about. If you have a Gillette Venus Vibrance razor, you will need to use shaving cream or shaving gel. The Venus Vibrance razor uses one small AAA battery. It's an electric razor. Normally, you don't need shaving cream if you use an electric shaver. Electric shavers have foil screens. The blades are located behind a foil screen. Those kinds of electric shavers don't require the use of shaving cream.

you won't get nearly as close of a shave with an electric, but they are good for shaving in a pinch. just turn it on and rub across your skin until hair is cut. really quite simple. no shaving cream or anything required.

i tend to use my electric shaver in the winter more like if I have not shaved my legs in awhile with the razor and shaving cream. I get the hair mostly shaved and then do clean up in the shower with my regular razor.

From experience, I get a way better shave with blades. If you insist on using the electric razor, it all depends. I always used shaving cream with mine. You're better off with a gel rather than a foam.
