your not lactating in the true sense. your producing colostrum which is what the baby feeds on until your milk comes in usually 24 to 48 hours after you give birth. with my first pregnancy i started producing colostrum at 24 weeks and this pregnancy i started at 7 weeks.
The only thing that its a sign of is that your body is ready to feed your baby!
Good Luck and Congrats!

RE:
How soon do you start lactating before baby comes?
I have a little less than 6 weeks left before my due date but I stared lactating this morning. Does this mean the baby will be coming soon?

What you are experiencing is Colostrum. This is the premilk that is produced before your milk comes in. Once you have delivered your child, you will notice that the more you nurse, the more milk you will produce. Colostrum is very good for infants, it carries TONS of helpful antibodies and nourishments that your infant needs in the first few weeks of life. Some mothers will even sometimes donate colostrum and breastmilk to milk banks. What the milk banks do is pasteurize the milk and sell it to local hospitals to give to preemies that are in dire need of those vital antibodies and nutrients. As far as your baby coming soon, it's hard to tell, every woman is different. I would assume since you have a little less than 6 weeks, this is your body's way of telling you to get ready. However, some women experience this early in pregnancy (like I did). I started leaking at three months, and had to wear nipple pads all up until the day I delievered. Once I delivered and my milk came in, I was able to nurse my daughter for 15 months. Relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Your baby will be here before you know it. I hope I have been helpful in your search for an answer! Congratulations and Good Luck!

I started Lactating at the 6 month mark of my pregnancy. This is a good sigh that your body is ready but I don't think that it will have anything to do with the baby coming early.
Good Luck and Congratulations

Someone already posted the correct answer but I will reiterate it: A womans milk does let down until about 2-4 days after birth. This sometimes depends on the frequency of your baby's nursing. Before birth the breasts are filled with colostrum. Some women do leak colostrum during their pregnancy, I did. Also, you will know when the milk comes in. Your breast usually get warm and BIGGER. Good Luck.

No, not really. I don't lactate at all before my baby comes, but some women have started as early as 20 weeks! It is no indication of when your baby will be born.

When (or even if) you leak has nothing to do with when baby will be born or your ability to nurse. Some women leak very early in pregnancy. Many leak during the third trimester. Some never leak at all. Any of these is normal and all of these moms can breastfeed successfully. It has nothing to do with when you'll give birth.
What you're leaking now is colostrum. It can stain, so if you haven't yet, get some nursing pads to wear in your bra to protect your clothing.
Your mature milk will begin to come in approx 3-5 days after you give birth.

It's no indication whatsoever... I'm at 25 weeks, and have been leaking for a week or two... in my previous pregnancies, I haven't leaked at all... your body is just getting ready, like all the other body changes... put that milk to good use when the baby arrives, I thoroughly reccomend breastfeeding, by the way. :)
