hello there, ive got a baby "angora" rabbit from a rehoming center a few days ago, he's 8 weeks old, a houserabbit and very fluffy! they told me he was an angora..........except he's got lop ears! so i asked if he was a cross, n they said no.

is it normal for angoras to have lop ears? because all the ones ive seen dont! or do u think he could be a cross?

i wouldnt change him for the world!! hes just sooooo cute! im just curious really about the breed. but if he is an angora, i can buy a specified book on angoras and read more about them!

ive had lionheads in the past, so grooming isnt an issue, just dont know much about angoras in general

thanks for your help!

Congrats, You have an American Fuzzy Lop!

There are 6 recognized breeds that have wool:

-- Giant Angora
-- French Angora
-- Satin Angora
-- English Angora (my personal favorite)
-- Jersey Wooly
-- American Fuzzy Lop

The 4 Angora breeds are used for their wool. It is either plucked or shorn and is used in the production of Angora sweaters and other articles of clothing. It is very warm, very light weight and does NOT itch like sheep's wool.

The Jersey Wooly and Am. Fuzzy Lop also have wool, but it isn't as nice as the Angora breeds and isn't commonly used for wool production. These two breeds are strictly bred for "fancy" (show) purposes.

Yes angoras can have lop ears. Also for the same reason that dogs ears flop at times is when it was born it couldve had it ears broken I know it sounds bad but it does not hurt them really. Thats why dome dogs have one ear that flops and one ear that doesnt. If the previous owner had taken care of it it would not have this problem. When the first sign of ingered ears happens they should have splented them. Thats why show puppys have ear splints sometimes. Also they do need A LOT of grooming. But if you have had a rabbit of any kind before you will be fine!

Hm...Angoras normally have erect ears. The parents might have been Angoras, but perhaps somewhere in the rabbit's lineage, someone went outside of the breed. Who knows!

I know that some Angoras have semi-flopped ears, but I've never seen one that had lop ears.

Who knows! Whatever he is, purebred or not, he's an adorable ball of fur, most likely. :)

It sounds like you have an American Fuzzy Lop. They are a little smaller than Angoras and they have more of a big lop head compared to Angoras.

For wool breeds just brush them out a couple times a week and make sure to keep their pens plenty clean. Wool breeds can get dirty very easily if you let their pen get dirty.
