I dont know about where you are however here in Australia it is illegal to tattoo anyone under the age of 18 even with parental consent - you can however be pierced from the age of 14 - 16 with a parent present and 16-18 with parental consent by letter - piercings are (or should be) considered permanent so I guess they figure at a young age you really cant make that kind of decision for yourself - I know there are lasers to remove tattoos however they can leave awful scaring, dont always remove the entire tattoo (you have little bits of colour here and there) and they cost up to 5 times the original cost of getting the tattoo done... Piercings however can be removed so I guess this is why they allow this at a younger age.

Yeah, they'll let you. BUT................ listen to my advice first!
Look in fashion magazines. If you get a prominent tattoo, one that is visible with a strapless dress, etc. there are so many clothes you will never be able to wear.
If you are dead-set on getting a tatoo, get one in an inconspicuous area, like your ankle (Cher has one there), or just get those wash off tattoos. Imagine how much better this could be. Every week, you could change your mind about what looks the best and where. Get some removable tattoos, the press on type, and live with them for a while.
Every friend I have had (including guys!!!) who had tattoos, have had them removed, often at huge expense.... thousands of dollars.
Remember, you can just get removable tattoos, and make up your mind at a later date.

Not a reputable show. The age in Illlinois is 18 whether or not you have consent from your parents or not. If a place will let you get one before you're 18, thats not a place you want to get a tatoo done.

I always thought it was 18 everywhere, regardless of if you show your birth certificate, father to sign you off and whatever forms of ID. Simpler and easier way would be to just call the tattoo shop and ask about their policies.

If your dad s (as your legal gaurdian) signs off on it, you should be fine without even needing your birth certificate.

I think you should just take your dad. I don't think they'll make a big deal out of it.
