Kat...don't listen to these wrong responses.

If your partner has had a vasectomy, then part of the post operative care is to have the male leave an post operative semen sample. The sample will be checked for live sperm.
Once two consecutive samples are shown to not have any viable, live sperm in them, then that person will be considered sterlie and unprotected intercourse cannot result in pregancy.

Until those samples are clear, sperm can still be present in the male reproductive tract.

Not usually. The best way to tell if they had a vasectomy, is to feel the tubes at the testicles, for a knot. there should be two knots. If there is, they you are safe from getting preg, but not from std unless u use a raincoat. (cant believe i answered that without dirty words)
