You don't. You configure your router to use your speedstream 5100 modem.

Read the router manual and Call Netgear if you get stuck.

If the modem is setup and working all you have to do is connect the eithernet cable to the WAN/Internet port of the netgear and your computer to one of the local area ports. There isn't much configuration needed. The modem is set and working.. the router will pull an IP from it.. the local machines will get an IP from the Netgear and you should be online.

In any event the modem needs no additional changes.. the router might.
