When human resources is evaluating candidates for potential jobs; can information on facebook, myspace and other online communities affect their decision?

Information you post on a website is public information, and it is one of the sources human resources can, and now very often do, often check for when evaluating candidates.

If your facebook, myspace, and friendster sites are linked to your name or email, potential employers can easily find those sites, and some do to see a side of you that you aren't presenting on your application or resume and to do a background check.

YES, most definitely. Many large employers cache, or save, people's entries on those sites. They then can go back and do background checks on those sites. One should always act as though everything on those sites will be known by future employers, or universities.

I didn't think that was used... something of a more personal not work related website so I wouldn't think so...

I would have to say No on this one... They are looking for work-related experience, personal websites are irrelevant to them...
