The new version of mandriva shows all my windows shares except the printer. I am new to linux, don't understand all the command line stuff, nor do I want to do away with the windows pc. I just want to be able to share the printer so I can print from the linux machine. I have the printer shared already, i didn't miss that. I know the first answer will be "move the printer" but i do not have space for that.

You will need the Mandriva driver for the printer.

All that the printer share does is make the printer available to other machines. The other machines have to communicate with the printer using the correct driver. The XP machine is just used as a network connector when you print from any other machine on the network.

Once the correct printer driver is setup on your Linux you just need to tell the driver where the printer is located on the network using the "share" path.

this is going to be a printer software issue. go to the printer TS and tell them what you're doing. you may find that one system or the other must be primary (hooked to that machine. if that's the case you may try using a longer cable (they say no longer than 12', but I've successfully used 25' USB cables for printers) or you may have to go wireless if the equipment accepts that.
