Unions have become unnecessary. Workers in this country have rights. However unions continue to stick around so they can collect union dues.

That's a bit like saying, we don't need the government anymore. We're already free, but they just stick around to collect taxes.

I think you need to study up on Unions, History of Unions, Necessity for Unions, Slave labor, Oppression of the common worker, Labor Laws, Minimum Wage....when you think you understand, re-post another question....like, where have all employment benefits gone?, and what about fair pay?, why are most workers wages frozen at such a low level today?, workers have rights, how can employers treat them as they wish?, and what the hell is this "Right to work" B.S.????

*addition..we are where we are today with wages and benifits promotions and recognition, because of the moves that were made 30 years ago to eradicate Unions, so as to give total control over Labor to Capitalist's and Government. If you don't think that is a correct analogy, you haven't been working very long. Todays laborer is a SLAVE. You don't get what you're worth, you get what you're given. I don't think anyone enjoys going through and paying for College only to apply for an entry level job at just above minimum wage.

* One more thing...your studies may help you understand that members of the Union fight for fellow employees, that are not in the "bargaining unit" (non-union members, that pay no dues) . So while union members negotiate for "everyones" benefit, the shy, chikenchit, non-union member sails through on the coat tails of the brave workers that demand fairness for all workers, not just union members.

This is correct. when is the last time a Union really protected any ones job.
Every company Unions stick there fingers into is in financial trouble and can not compete with non union companies.
Our American Auto makers are a prime example.
Most of the layoffs over the last 30 years have been because of Unions.

While it's true that most of what Unions worked for has been legislated into law years ago - most workers are aware that those laws and the enforcement of safety, hours, age, job security, and wage would begin to erode if unions were not around.

That is true in most part. Unions have become a way for lazy, unproductive workers to remain jobs because they're protected by unions. I find it despicable that politicians have to suck up to unions in order to elected and many unions force workers of a company to join them. I know a guy who works at Barney's in New York and he was pressured to join the unions by his colleagues. Apparently, there are ways you can do that because some laws have passed requiring some workers in certain jobs to be in unions. Workers have to be protected and have rights but I think unions aren't as useful as they were before.
