A kingdom requires a king so maybe: The United Republic of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or UR for short?

The object of your question was the monarchy, so they would be called 'Obsolete'. However, I now see your question is what would the UK be called if the monarchy was abolished. Hmmm. I'm not happy with the United bit - the Scots and Welsh are trying to get independence from England and Northern Ireland is far from united. How about we call this Utopian dream The Disunited Republic of Anglo Britain - or DRAB for short (LOL).

Just spotted a comment saying that half the people in Scotland and Wales and Ireland want to be part of the UK - no problem there - but then went on to say the guy who suggested otherwise was a c***. May I respectfully point out that c***'s are very useful and provide a great deal of pleasure to a lot of people. Perhaps another part of the human anatomy should have been referred to? Just a suggestion.

They would end up having a republic or a democratic republic. They could even decide to call their prime ministers, presidents.

Yeah if they abolish the monarchy they can be just like the US. The country that won their independence from the UK (the country that many left because of religious persecution and other things) will now have an exact carbon copy of a country they used to hate :(

first thing is first, you cannot simply abolish the monarchy, ok we've given power to the government (god knows why, they re doing a cr*p job) instead so they run the country. The monarchy has been around for almost 2000 years so to turn around and take it away would strip the country of all we stand for. Then we end up like the yanks which is a boring soceity and get presidents. No we shall stay as the U.K and we shan't abolish the monarchy. Anyone who believes we should can sod off to another country (like france or the U.S.A). oh by the way most of northen ireland oveer haf of scotland and the majority off wales want to be part of the u.k so the guy who suggested that we all go our separate way is a c u n t

United Confusion. Parliamentary government is the worst form of government there is because there is never any consistency and the PM must always be campaigning to protect his position. With the Monarchy, the UK at least has a stable authority to fall back on if Parliament every completely goes south. Dump Parliamentary government and go for a President/Congress style---it is more stable and workable. The US government is not perfect, but it certainly is more workable and stable than what the UK has.

Would still be called great Britain but would probably lose the Kingdom part because we would be a republic. But I doubt we will ever get rid of the monarchy because the Queen is not only of state here but also the commonwealth aswell it would to complicated to get rid of them.

Personally, I think they should just drop this old patriotic sham that is the "United" part of it and revert to being separate countries. That way, Scotland could have it's own time zone and Wales and Northern Ireland would be completely independent of England's stupid laws and degenerating culture.

They shouldn't have to be dragged down into oblivion by England, where, coincidentally, is where it is heading if the Government isn't replaced or if whoever ends up in charge after 'Bliar' doesn't sort the mess out.
