It really depends on what kind of career you want or what you want out of life. My sister did terrible in high school. I did amazing in high school. I have a college degree and she doesn't. She makes twice as much money as I do. So whose to say? Now with my 2 brothers the situation is switched. So there are examples of each.

GPA is pretty important. That isn't to say you need a 4.0, because that is really high, but a 2.0 isn't acceptable. Try for a 3.0. you can MAYBE get away with a 2.7, but strive for higher than that. If you can't get your GPA up high enough, than a community college might be your next step after high school. You could use the community college to boost your GPA and get into a university. The only thing is that college is not any easier than high school, so working hard now will pay off in the long run. Don't get your hopes down. If you raise your grades, you'll at least get into a state school. But a 2.0 is really sketchy. Good luck!!

My answer to your question is yes and no. I think that your success in life depends mostly on your drive and will to succeed. Scenarios:
(1) A lazy high schooler who gets poor grades and has poor conduct. Graduates and gets a job making minimum - medium wage, and remains in that position the rest of his/her life.
(2) A lazy high schooler who is intelligent, makes B averages, but could pull an A if they really tried, and who has overall decent conduct. This kid does well on SAT/ACT and gets into a good college. Fails the first semester, leaves college, and gets a minimum - medium wage job and remains in that position the rest of his/her life.
(3) A hard-working high schooler that struggles to pull a high C - low B average, does decent on the SAT/ACT and makes it into a fairly basic college. Graduates from college with a B average, gets a job paying a decent salary and remains in that position the rest of his/her life.
(4) A hard-working high schooler who pulls an A average, does supurb on the SAT/ACT and makes it into an ivy league college. Gets to college, flunks out the first year, gets a minimum - medium wage job and remains in that position for the rest of his/her life.
(5) A hard-working high schooler who pulls an A average, does supurb on the SAT/ACT, makes it into an ivy league college and graduates at the top of his/her class with Honors. Gets a well-paying job and continues to move up in the company/career for the rest of his/her working life.
No, these are not the only scenarios. There are many. The whole deal with grades is that the better your grades, the more OPTIONS you have. If you get poor grades in high school, less colleges will accept you and you may have to attend a community college to even get accepted into a basic 4-year university.
So, yes, grades matter to a certain extent, but how far you go in life depends mostly on your ambition and desire to achieve success.

High school grades do make a difference cuz colleges do look at them and if your not up to there standards you more than likely won't get accepted

No one gives a damn what grade you got in high-school. No one really cares what grades you got in college either.
The important thing is to learn, for yourself. If the subject doesn't interest you enough to learn about it then see about taking a different course.
You know what they call a med student who finishes at the bottom of his class?
Doctor.
it doesn't matter what kind of grades he got.
