unplug your computer, remove the side panel, touch some bare metal in the case to remove all static electricity from your self, find the old drive. there will be 2 or 3 wires to remove. one will be the power connector, the wide gray ribbon cable, and maybe a smaller audio cable. remove the 4 screws(some have a scrweless set up and you have to move a lever) slide the drive out of the front. on the back of the drive there will be a small plastic thing connecting two pins. you will be able to determine if it is a master or slave drive by the pins it connects(it's called a jumper). make sure the new drive is set the same as the old one(master or slave). slide the new drive into the case, attach the screws(or flip the lever) attach the wires(power, ribbon cable and audio). put the side panel back on, plug it in and boot it up. when it's booted, go to "my computer" and see if your new drive is there. if everything went well, it will say DVD-RW drive......good luck

FIRST OF ALL SWITCH YOUR COMPUTER OFF.
1. You must open the left and right panels of your case, take the screws of the DVD-ROM out unplug the cables attached to the DVD-ROM (and remember how they were plugged).
2. Pull the DVD-ROM out of your case from the front side of the case and put the DVD-burner (DVD-RAM) to the case from the front side of the case. Connect the same cables again to DVD-RAM as they were connected to DVD-ROM. Fix the device with screws and close the panels back.
-----------------------
You can also add a DVD-RAM without removing DVD-ROM.
You will see two cables connected to your DVD-ROM (3 is also possible but the third cable is for analog input of audio signals and that cable is the smallest so you wll recognize it). The power cable has 4 wires (starting with yellow), the IDE ribbon cable has 40 or 80 wires.
If you see that you have a free sticker on your IDE cable then you can stick it into the DVD-RAM (without removing DVD-ROM) and plug a power cable (like the one that DVD-ROM has) to DVD-RAM and that's it. But it's better to look at the back side of DVD-ROM and DVD-RAM. There are jumpers there. You need to put the jumpers on Cable Select Mode (CS). It's the best manner.

Easy! Just unplug the connectors of your DVD-ROM, then remove the screws at the sides and push the drive outward. Now push in your new DVD writer, screw it in place, then plug in the connectors. Power up your PC and install the DVD burning software. You should be ready to rock n roll.

Now you can sell your old drive to me.
