Creative construction... how do I make a large item with wheels for ?......?

Ok, bargain dweller here again, I am going to plant flats of seeds. I would like to do something like this that is CHEAP. take a sheet of plywood and mount wheels on the bottom and put planted seed flats on them and be able to pull then in the garage if it freezed over night, which is off and on in my area now, but mostly off. Actually, I found a child's toy at the 2nd hand store that was like a low flat wide wagon with wheels and got that. Any other creative ideas ? CHEAP. Plywood would warp with the weather, so that won't work and it doesn't have to be that big, but about 1/2 that size at least, I was trying to think of something plastic that size that I could mount wheels to. I hope this makes sense and no I don't want to put up a greenhouse, been there done that thanks ahead of time :)

ok. cheap twice in all caps means CHEAP. I would go with the plastic and plywood. If its too big, cut it.. get at least two mill, and the weather will wear it out eventually, but it should work ok. You could even build a tent for the flats, which will help them stay warm, using ingenuity, string and some found objects. I also try to recycle, and while things do not always look designer, they work, and sometimes I even get compliments, and requests. Good luck.

I think your plywood idea will work just fine. you will need to make a frame for it so it wont bow on you. you can use 2x4 every2 feet or every 16 inches. this will make dividers in your large tray this will help to separate plants. my only thought was the water and dirt will rot the wood away so you will have to line it with some plastic and drill a hole or 2 so extra water can escape. the only other thing i can think of to use are the large plastic storage bins. cut the top half off so they arent so tall. I would do a 2x4 frame on the underside for them . this will make them stronger and give you a place to attach some wheels.

I can't know how "Cheap" you want to go, but my first thought in your details is why not just buy a ANOTHER childs, molded, plastic wagon,,,even from a thrift store. You could always lay a sheet of ply over it, OR plastic panels, at the size you want, or use the depression part of the existing wagon to avoid any "ooops" Major big box home stores also sell yard carts in the same molded plastic. I bought one that's adequate for $29.

To "Build" might run you more money in the end, especially with the wheels and hardware, include labor and time in that.

With a typical childs wagon the tires, albeit also molded plastic, are often wide enough to not be a huge issue over grass or soft earth, and most come with handles which would allow you to hang on pegs in the garage when not in use.

Find yourself one of those plastic interior door slabs. They're reasonably strong, will withstand the garden hose, and light. New, a plastic slab is only about twenty bucks. You will have to paint the top side. The U.V. rays from the sun will kill it.
