It seems like they always stirke in open fields. Is it possible for a tornado to run through downtown Chicago or other huge cities?

Yes, tornadoes often strike cities. But they strike open fields more often because a larger percentage of the land area in tornado zones is covered by fields.

Exactly what ecolink said. Large parts of the tornado zones are open fields, because most tornados hit Northern Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, place where there is lots more open fields than cities.

Actually they seem to strike trailer parks a lot too....
