Yes, while I believe to a certain extent that unions are good because it does hold some utility for the workers. Many businesses fear unions and therefore, are not abusive or try to put slave wages. However, unions are corrupt and greedy and in many times abuse the corporations they work for only because they protect the worker. They coddled the lazy workers only because he pays his dues like they protect teachers who stink and this is what hurts our public schools. Unions need serious reform if it still wants to be useful in the new century, it needs to reshape many priorities and get rid of lazy workers. Many of them take advantage of everything and want more than they deserve.

In the fifties one in three Americans were in a union and business was good and everyone was making money. It's greed at the executive level of management and poor decision making that kills companies, not unions. How many union workers can be paid with one CEO's pay package and perks? Tell me how one person is worth a hundred million a year but a worker isn't allowed to make a decent living wage?

Unions have a very important role - and it is not protecting lazy workers. Before long, expect to see a chipping-away of the laws that protect the workers - safety, hours, job security, and wages of employees and the cuts to the budget to pay and prosecute violations.
Unions have to struggle for relevance today because so much of what they have contributed was legislated into law many years ago. The other hit to unions is the loss of manufacturing to other countries.

Not really; it all depends upon who's in positions of power on either side of the fence. There are good and bad managers and the same goes for stewards and union officers.
In general, I've seen both the good and the bad. Sometimes slackers manage to avoid being fired, but not for the most part. Nobody needs a bad employee, and he/she will not be a credit to either the company or the union.
But never forget why unions were started in the first place.
No system is perfect, but it's better than none.

It is still ultimately up to the employer. I worked for a Union company back in the 90's, and we fired many people over the years that weren't doing their jobs, poor attendance, poor job performance etc. The employer has a lot more control than the union does. It is a misconception that once someone is in the union their jobs is protected to the end, that's not the case.

Years ago Unions help established the level of living we have today. They are no longer needed and have lost ground for years. Only about 3% of the work force is organized. And yes they do protect the lazy worker

Yes. Unions usually are needed the first few years. They are started to straighten the company, but, after a few years the power swings and they become as bad as or worse than the way the company way doing business.

I don't think they are destorying themselves. I think they already have destroyed themselves. I live in Michigan and I can tell you that it is worse then you think it is. Lazy doesn't even come close to the reality of the situation. Unions were made for a reason and this was not the reason. Time for them to go away totally.

No they are destroying themselves by driving the cost of production up so high that the average person cannot afford thier products. If you dont beleive me then just look at Detroit and the automobile industry.

Yep. Just think. If they wised up and good rid of the lazy ones instead of protecting them, it would increase productivity, guarantee job security, lower prices, etc.
The unions have destroyed themselves.
