Not all Americans idolize Elvis, only those who were living in that time can truly Idolize him, he was the most talented performer of his day, true he was a drug addict but they say drug addiction is a disease, how can you criticize someone who only suffered from a disease, un-american? I guess not people criticize drug addicts all the time.

Elvis helped change the face of music in this country, and influenced many musicians from The Beatles to The Rolling Stones. An influence that big is certainly worthy of the praise he has received. I don't think it's "un-American" to not like him or his music, but he definitely deserves the credit he's been given. The man was and always will be an American icon...the original American Idol!

I'm NOT an American, - but, I really CAN understand, WHY so MANY adore Elvis! He was, - at the BEGINNING of his career, - fortunate enough, to appear on the scene, when music was a little "STAID", - he provided something, that the teenagers, of the day, "NEEDED", as an "OUTLET", for all of their emotions!

I don't think that it's "UN-AMERICAN" to criticise him, - but, I DO feel, that criticism would be UNWARRANTED!

He lived a "CLEAN" life, - all those, who claim, that his untimely death, was due to the usage, of ILLEGAL DRUGS, can, actually, be PROVED to be INCORRECT!

Having SEEN, - and READ, in DETAIL, - the AUTOPSY report, compiled by INDEPENDENT physicians, - it was PROVED that his death was caused by a HEART ATTACK, - and, NOTHING, MORE!

Unfortunately, Elvis never PERFORMED in the UK, - but, those who claim, that he never VISITED these shores are WRONG, - because, - on his way home, from Germany, in March, 1960, (after his National Service), - his aeroplane made a short stop, (for FUEL), at the airport, in PRESTWICK, Scotland, - and, Elvis DID set foot, on British soil! There IS, - I believe, - a PLAQUE, at the airport, (somewhere), to commemorate the day!

He is perceived "All American as Apple Pie", but in death, a talented, beautiful looking man like Elvis would have a hard time being chastised. He apparently was a great guy with some bad drug habits and in that, he created his own legacy. Something tells me though, that he would have been a wonderful man during his later years if he had lived.....and it is nice to have a 'lving', dead legend......

LOL..no, I doubt it. Of course his fans are a vocal lot but that's about all.

Elvis "today" is just a caricature of who or what he was. I'd wager that most of his fans today weren't even alive when he was considered "king." But it's interesting how a good bit of mystique can keep the popularity fires burning, even for someone who's been dead for the past 30 years! And he's the proof!

He wasn't half bad though...an interesting performer rather.

No not all Americans Idolize Elvis.Though he was a good singer to most and he did pave the way for the greater bands of today. But to say he is as homely as mom's apple pie is over rating him in a way.. He was big in his time for his talent and his love for his family.(even more so for the love of his twin whom passed at birth)So the answer is no but we all have to say thanks to him for all he did for the rock music.

i dont understand the craze of Elvis, he is before my time.. i understand he did revolutionise music and was responsible for the birth of rock and roll here in America, there are still alot of Elvis Presley impersonators and the older women seem to love them to this day.. but today's generation really doesn't care anymore...
