Their biggest objection is that if everyone lived hundreds of years or perhaps eternally it would cause overpopulation. Well I think they are wrong. They forget to take into consideration that people are having fewer children and that we will colonize space!

You are right, they are wrong.

If they want to die, let them. But they oppose other people living longer, and that is indeed annoying.

If they do not care for long life, they should drive under the influence or while talking on their cellphone, smoke, use drugs, eat greasy food, not exercise. Then they will create the room needed for their kids, that is if they do reproduce.

Some are opposed to it for religious reasons. Some oppose it possibly for moral reasons. Some oppose it simply because they fear new technology. What ever the cause, what they feel is their right, but to impose it on others who want to live hundreds of years is wrong. Also, the thought that people will over-populate the earth has a very slight grain of truth. However, living eternally won't remove the other causes of death such as murder, accidents, suicides and so on.

I never heard any arguments along those lines. Who do you think is objecting? The best part of current longevity research is not that it extends the lifespan, but that it increases the portion of our lifespan in which we are healthy. There is, of course, objection to any research which destroys human life to make its gains, like embryonic stem cell research, which hasn't even yielded any benefit. Adult and umbilical cord stem research has already yielded significant benefit. I doubt anyone objects to that.
