It was Jimmy Carter. We had hyper inflation. We have a lot of government regulations. We had a poor military. When he was the governor of Georgia, he had a poor record as governor.

I think only experience can answer this question.
Do we really know the daily experience of Americans during the first 100 years or so?
This question should also have an 'and why?' tacked on to it.

There have been a bunch of horrible Presdients for different reasons.
The most recent would be Bill Clinton disgracing the office.
Before that, I don't have much experience.
It's very possible that Clinton was not the worst but he did do something that is on the end of the worst side of the scale.
Because of how bad that one thing was, anything good he did was like a filthy rag.
If a rapist/murderer helps one old lady across the street, is he suddenly a good citizen? Surely not. It is like he's trying to do something good to cover up his evil.
Same applies to Clinton, while much good came out of his Presidency, it is far overshadowed by a detestable act.

It used to be Jimmy Carter but it looks like George W. Bush is going to win this race in the history books.

warren g harding. did you know that he himself said that america shouldnt have elected him and all he did was play croquet on the white house lawn. he filled the cabinet with his friends and caused the teapot dome scandal. not much know him, but he was genuinely like a lazy **** who didnt try to be good. he had no self confidence, and he was the least qualified president in the history of the U.S

I would say Polk and Buchannan since they did nothing to prevent the Civil War.

In December, the Washington Post ran a series of short op eds that discussed whether George Bush was the worst president ever. They discuss all the presidents who are usually at the bottom of the rankings.

If you go to the bottom of the article where it says "People who read this also read..." links are there to the rest of the opinions.

If you haven't read enough yet, you might want to read this article:

Bush will go down in history as the worst president ever.

He manipulated intelligence to take us into war.

They outed a CIA agent as an act of political revenge.

Bush has condoned torture and denied habeas corpus in violation of Geneva Conventions.

He has spent more money than a drunken sailor in a whore house. Bush will leave a debt that will take over two hundred years to pay off, and has assured that who ever gains the White House, they will have to raise taxes, and it will all be due to Bush.

Terrorist attacks increased 25% world wide last year...and the Iraq Study Group concludes that Bush has actually made us less safe, and more likely to be attacked.

Bush used U.S. attorneys in an attempt to politicize prosecutions, and then fired them when they wouldn't "play ball."

Bush performed illegal wiretaps in violation of FISA laws and has raped our Constitution.

The list goes on forever.

My toilet bowl brush has a greater chance of going down in history as a better president.

From what I have seen in my lifetime- most will answer - Jimmy Carter. But he is such a nice man and in my opinion, has been our best "ex-president". His work with Habitat for Humanity elevates him. It is so nice to see that he will definiely be vindicated in the history books as the "worst president in history" title, crown and banner are now bestowed on our (war-monger of an alcoholic idiotic brain damaged) current president.

William Henry Harrison.

Seriously, the guy didn't wear a coat to his own inaguration, got pneumonia, and died a month into his presidency. And this was back when inaguration was held in March, as opposed to January.

How lame is that?

Jimmie Carter, has to be the worse, he held the hand of the worlds biggest terrorist and allowed Iran to declare war on the United States and do nothing.
