Sit in the front row and do all of your homework. Make school your #1 priority. Try to do all the readings assigned, but at times that can get difficult reading a chapter per class per week (5 chapters all together per week sometimes, depending on your teachers), so don't feel bad if you can't get all of the readings done or fall behind a little, but at least browse them quickly.

Don't fall too far behind, especially if you're taking math classes, it's extremely important to keep up with math homework.

Use your professor's office hours for any help. See them before tests with any questions.

Have fun, but don't let your social life interfere with your work. You're going to college to get an education, not to be the life of the party, and if you are going to be the life of the party, then drop out of school and go into retail.

Get sleep. I work 30 hrs a week and am taking 5 classes. Sometimes for tests I wake up at 4 or 5 am to study more (if necessary- depending on how much I did or did not prepare), and after 3 days of working, school, and maybe a night or 2 of waking up at 5am, I've fallen asleep in class twice. With that said, DON'T PROCRASTINATE!!! If you have an essay due, start it asap!

I have a 3.5 overall and I'm graduating in December. The trick to being a good student in college is thinking. Think about everything you do carefully. Don't pick classes you haven't scoped on ratemyprofessor. Never take a language and a science class at the same time. Thursday IS the new Friday, but you've still got to do your work.Basically, you've got to plan ahead to make sure things will be easy. Always sign up for extra classes, take 5 or 6, so that you can drop the worst one (because you can't predict everything) and still be taking a full course load. Most people waste time switching majors, my advice is this: do what you're good at, not what you like. If you do what you're good at you can work less and get better grades, if you do what you like you might work hard and fail. ie. Don't try to learn Hindi. If you are going away for college take summer courses at home - cheaper usually. Also, do not be afraid to play dirty- your campus medical office. ALL CAMPUS MEDICAL OFFICES issues notes for anything. If you sleep through a final or need an extension or any nonsense they will usually write you up a note no problem. Worst comes to worst, go to a doctor and get yourself diagnosed with ADHD. Once you do that you are set- make sure you get the good stuff- adderall. Not only will you have ready access to speed (the greatest study aid ever) but you will have a catchall excuse for slacking off- you can usually get extra time on exams, extensions on papers, and its just a general grade booster if you hit up the office hours and talk about 'how you're having trouble concentrating'. College is a breeze, it just takes a long time. And you should be a better student b/c theres nothing cool about failing.

Knowledge is power. Take Cornell Notes during class (look up format on the net) and rise early every morning. I do not know you but I bet you think best in the morning.
