How can American husbands tolerate their wives?

In Indian culture the wife is very loyal/faithful/submissive to her husband. If my wife acted like an American woman I'd end my life, how can men in the US tolerate their wives. They dont do anything for them but expect their husbands to do everything for them. why are american women so selfish?

So may answers, but the first three illustrate the point that is inherent in the question. American women certainly aren't subordinate to anyone, or anything ... they can say what they like, and they most usually do without the slightest regard for reason, self-examination or restraint. (Ref 3: The best lay on the planet?) You are either joking or extremely naive. Perhaps you've not travelled to other countries where women could show you more about a man than you may ever come to know ... but then again ... you're an American woman (or girl) and don't need advice or information since you already know everything. More American marriages end in divorce than in any other so-called "civilized" country ... and you might wonder why but I doubt that you will ... wonder that is !! Criticizing a culture that has lasted for many thousands of years without displaying even a hint of having any understanding of it it is typical of the intolerant USAW species that the originator is alluding to. You did not opine in any constructive manner - you were simply rude.

Most definitely not. Perhaps some backward cultures feel that way, because they don't care for women who know what they want and aren't shy in getting it. In any event, other countrymen often cheap-shot Americans, but they rarely mind reaching into our national coffers. Best to ask American women what they think of the menfolk, or the cultural differences of the peoples' countries who are bashing on them.

It's not selfishness. It's a cultural difference. American women have the social and economic freedoms to not have to tolerate archaiac cultural rules. Indian women have yet to make it into the 21st century that way.

With the increase in high tech jobs in India, you may find there are fewer and fewer Indian women who are willing to tolerate being second class citizens. It'll take awhile, but I'm sure the silent revolution is already starting.

Expecting him to mow the lawn and take out the trash is selfish?

Here's the deal: I work, I maintain my car, my finances, my house and my children. Anything he does in any of those departments is greatly appreciated.

We have six kids, one is in college, one is learning to drive, another needs to learn to drive, and there's another coming up soon after that one. The two youngest need to get to activities, practice, and baseball games.

We each have full time jobs.

We constantly cater to driving schedules and forseen and unforseen events ("I broke my phone....can you come down and help me get a new one? Now.) Oh, the Christmas Pagent is next Thursday....Oh, I need to go to Honor Society induction next Friday.....And theres always, always Baseball practice and games.

I put my own gas in my car, too...$3.00 a gallon, dear....

What does he want me to submit to? Dinner is on. There are clean towels. The electric didn't get cut off, I paid the bill....What???

First of all, AMERICAN woman hate when men feel like they own them. Many men enjoy a woman being independent, that being said. Not all woman in america are selfish! There are many woman in this country supporting their husbands. There are some woman who provide for the family as well as the husband. Yes there are woman in america that sit on their butt and expect their husbands to do everything, however, we are not all like that! In my family, my husband goes out and works and in return I take care of the home. He treats me with love and respect and as his equal. He may bring home the money, but he knows that I keep this house running!

As Americans, we tend to like our girls having independence and a freedom to choose for themselves. We look at our girls as equals, not like men from India who treat their wives like livestock.

We don't want our girls to be "submissive". We want them to love us freely, and give of themselves freely. We don't coerce them, or force them to serve us.

American girls are not selfish. As a matter of fact, they're the most loyal, wonderful, and giving girls on the planet. But they do so by their own free will, not because they are coerced to do so.

Perhaps you think beating your wife like an animal makes them submit to you. That's not love, that you being a slave owner or a taskmaster. I really feel sorry for Indian women. All they want is someone to love them, not treat them like a beast of burden. And the Indian men don't get it, they really don't.

We're not all like that. Me and my friends aren't like that in any way. Just so you know you can't say that about all American women. Sure we are independent but we aren't the way you described.
