You didnt say where you live, but in the USA there are no pharmacists sitting at home waiting for jobs! We have an aging populating and a lot of people who use a lot of pharmaceutical drugs. So, there are thousands of jobs for pharmacists. A graduating PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy) at our local college told me he had over 200 job offers - he showed me a big briefcase full of the letters he has received!

On the other hand, because pharmacy is such a great career, there are thousands of students trying to get admitted to pharmacy colleges. The colleges are mostly not very big and so there is tough competition to get in. According to an article in our local paper, the state university pharmacy college had over 1000 applicants for 90 seats. To be admitted you have to have a very high average in your prerequisite courses which are tough - organic chemistry, calculus, biochemistry....

Pharmacy is a great career for anyone who is very good in science (especially math and chemistry) and who is a very organized person who is completely honest and does not have any kind of addiction or drug habit. Needless to say, a person with a drug habit would not last very long in this career!

Here in the U.S. pharmacists are not unemployed except when they choose to be. There is a huge shortage!
