As an Englishman I fully support Scottish independence, in fact you can build Hadrian's wall a thousand foot high, and all the Scots can get their arses back over the border to their beloved country and stay there, oh and by the way Blackpool is out of bounds as well, so no more horrible Glasgow weekends thank god!!!

I hear Sean Connery will leave the Bahamas and come back to Scotland if it gets its independence, yeah right!!!! once he gets a cold gust up his kilt he'll soon be running back to sunnier climbs don't you worry.

Bye bye whingers, and don't forget your umbrella's!!!!

As a Scot, I want Scottish independence as much for England as for Scotland. At the moment, we give £8.6billion to the Westminster government, and get £8.1billion back in public spending. When the oil runs out, where is that £8.1billion going to come from? How are they/we going to pay for us?
Thankfully, a small independent country like Scotland can theoretically reinvent itself as a high-growth dynamic economy by cutting corporate taxes and attracting in international companies. The UK can't do that - it would provoke a retaliation from other big countries. Whether Scotland could do it or not is not clear, but it sure as hell can't do it as part of the UK. We would have a small, rural economy that puts an absolutely massive drain on the UK and contributes nothing. Then we would see who wants us to have independence. At least if we get it now, we can fall back on the oil money to give us time to get everything in place that we need to survive without it.

I read you 'Telegraph' story, I see it had a happy ending by praising the virtues of the Conservatives, we all know about the 'virtues' of the cons'( I like that abbreviation it suits).
However back to your question, if your heart was really in it you would have presented a far more unbiased set of figures, like how much has England robbed us out of over the years, how much has England got from our oil, balance up those figures and when we have reached a conclusion we will sue the ar*e off you all!
We are not a bad lot and we will of course give you time to pay, until then we'll call it a loan, but don't forget the interest, were not completely soft ! You owe us big time.
The money will come in very handy for us to do a bit of rebuilding on that wall that Hadrian did! This time it wont be to keep us out, it will be to keep you out.
Female Enlgish tourists will still be welcome of course we dont want to be too harsh.
Also the rest of the world , Welsh and Irish can have the run of the place male and female, you will eventually be isolated, 'little England' no longer British Empire!
Oh dear what a shame. YIPEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
Hope this helps??

I have Scots and Irish blood, but was born in England. I regard myself as a British Celt.

The question I often ask myself is - 'how much does the UK depend upon Scotland, Wales and odd bits of N Ireland to give it some kudos'.

The Scots have bagpipes, tartan, clans (I'm entitled to membership of one of them) Rabbie Burns, neeps, haggis, whisket and Drambuie..

The Welsh have choirs, leeks, cultural festivals (eistedffods - forgive me, O Welsh, if I have spelt it incorrectly).

The Northern Irish who like to be part of the UK have a distinct aversion to anyone enjoying themselves on Sundays, and a tremendous sense of fun if they are sure that their Pastors are not peering at them..

The English have.... a bit of Morris dancing, a Patron Saint who is Turkish, and Chicken Tikka Masala.

If the Scots wish to be independent, it is up to them, and it should be their decision. Similarly with the Welsh. As for Northern Ireland, Terence O'Neill has finally won, nearly forty years since he espoused 'hands across the border'. A shame that he is not alive to see it.

To me, the UK is a great institution, and I will be sad if it breaks up. N Ireland will go eventually, but the Scots, Welsh and English all occupy a bit of land that has common borders and no sea between the borders. If the Welsh and the Scots go for the independant option, then England will have to develop a culture of its own, PDQ.

I do!
Read a few of the articles in my sources section. Then you'll understand why we get more. Simply we put in more. Impressive that a country with a population of 5 million can keep the UK afloat. What do we get for it ... claims that we are leeches. The English need to learn humility. Arrogance is so British Empire, so 100 years ago, so over!

Seriously though read up on the Barnett Formula, take into account that it costs more to educate 1 kid in a school in the highlands than 60 kids in a class in London. Or that air ambulances for remote communities and English that get stuck up our mountains, cost more that a regular ambulance in Sheffield. Or that since the UK govt removed all industry from Scotland unemployment is higher than in south England. Read and learn before jumping on silly bandwagons and making claims about things that are more complex than simply who gets what. I imagine spending in the north of England is higher than the south. What should we do about that?

I don't understand why labour is so against finding out what the majority of Scots want. Give them a referendum so that they can decide.
Alternatively, allow the English a referendum to find out if they want Scotland to remain part of the UK.
While the UK isn't exactly a club, why not allow the members to decide?

I am not Scottish, but we support independence for Scotland 100%.

I agree, let us all break away now - but NOT before the six get the multi-billion pound cheque they deserve for being under foreign occupation.

The people of Scotland need to stay as part of the rest of Great Britain. Dividing this great country will leave unity out in the cold. You can control your own destinies without divisions in you Government. It is a beautiful country as a whole and divided will break it all down. God Bless to all of Great Britain including Scotland as part of it.
