Ultimately you can choose from quite a few different ones - but let me just give you a few cautionary bits of advice.

Whatever you do, do NOT use one of the "is the name available" features at one of the hosting sites until you are ready to buy with credit card in hand because there are too many stories of then STEALING your url choice because you decided to wait a few more days - by then, they have grabbed it - sleazy yes but there's not much you can do so type in the url you want in your nbrowser as if you expect to surf to it - if you get a 'blank" page, you are okay - if not, someone obviously owns it.

(And yes godaddy, com has been accused of stealing domains fro people who innocently use their search but don't buy that day).

The other thing is how serious you are about this. If your intention is more of a test and frankly, you don't really care if your url is MY-COMPANY.com or MY-NEW-Co.com, then by all means, you can just hunt for the lowest prices (check WIRED magazine - if they afford to advertise in WIRED, they'll be around for a few years) - just keep in mind there's a small chance they'll just fold up shop but if you're losses are like $100, big deal - you can start again ... but if you absolutely certain you are building an amazon.com and you'll never want to change your name, then pony up the money for a more reputable company and not just by price.

Other thing - make sure it's .com - anything else is second class. Good luck!

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukenden/

They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 300000 MB (300 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.
Visit the site to check details.

Following site is quite good to register domains as price is reasonable with free privacy. Some charge about $5/ year just for free privacy.
