you can use the theorem to make sure something is a perfect right angle. For example say you want to cut a rectangular hole in your wall to mount something. You can use a 3-4-5 right triangle measurement to make sure your sides are perfectly square.

The most common use of the pythagoras theorem is finding the shortest distance. Since we often use coordinate systems to state the position of something, we then must use pythagoras to find the actual distance between.

For example, if we have two building that are related on a map to be in location (3,5) and (6,9), then we can use pythagorus to determine the distance between the buildings.

((6-3)^2 + (9-5) ^2 ) ^ (1/2) = 5

Pythagoras theorm can be used in the following ways:- 1)determining the trajectory of a bullet or the distance from something you are 2)Walls were erected using the Pythagorean theorem. 3)a squared + b squared = C squared 4)it can be used to find distances on maps from one place to another using the grids on the map and then convert the map scale to see how far apart they actually are on the ground. It is actually pretty cool. I never thought I'd use the pythagoran theorem for anything!

There are many applications in Science and all branches of engineering including Electrical,Electronic,Mechanical and Civil.
In all of above, vectors are widely used and vectors have horizontal and vertical components. The resultant of these components is the hypotenuse of a right angled triangle and may be found via Pythagoras.
