I am in high school and am planning to get a job. The problem is no one seems to want to hire an inexperienced person. Everyone wants a resume, but I am looking for my very first job. How do people get their first job? Is it hard? What are the chances that I will be hired? How do people do it? I feel embarassed even just applying anywhere. A lot of students begin working when they are 15, 16, but I am already 18.

Things might look bleak now, but just remember that even when you do have experience and an impressive resume, you have to go through at least a dozen interviews to get a job.

A resume doesn't have to include experience. List your skills - if you know a another language thats good. If you're interested in electronics, and are applying for a job at an electric store, that's also good. So list your skills and personal interests.

The people who need a teenager to work for them usually won't expect you to have a lot of experience, but you will need to show them what kind of person you are.

In the interview, look interested. You can do some research, and find out what kind of workers that person needs. Even if a person/store isn't advertising right now, that doesn't mean they don't need help.

It might seem like forever until you land your first job, but a few years later you'll look back and smile at how easy it was for you. You're at a very good age to look for a job.

Good luck.

What sorts of jobs are you applying to? There are several jobs out there that don't require prior work experience. Also, some employers actually like to hire kids without work experience, because they are easier to train because they haven't established any bad work habits yet. You say you feel embarrassed just applying anywhere. Remember, everyone has to start somewhere. I have friends that started in fast food and moved up to better paying jobs shortly thereafter.

As far as your resume goes, employers are not going to expect you to have any job listings on your resume if you've never worked. But, you should list activities that make you look hard-working, social, and favorable. So, if you have done any community service, sports, or extracuricular activites include those.

I didn't get my first job until after I turned 18. I went to several stores, picked up applications, and got an interview right away. It's all about having a positive and professional attitude.

Good luck. :)

First step is to make up a Resume. Even though you havn't worked before you can show people what things you have studied at high school, your hobbies and include some referees that employers can call etc... The best places to apply for your first job are large chain stores, like supermarkets, they like to hire younger people to work after school and weekends.

Need to start small, Food store, Mall, or anything entry level. Apply to all jobs that you would like. All first job pretty much pay crap but what you need is the exprience anyways, that and a higher education( Need to go to college for something)

Bottom line everyone needs to start somewhere

go out and search for available jobs that don't require a college degree.
