NO! You could be getting ready to start ovulating again. One thing is sure, the Catholics tried to practice the "rhythm) method for decades, and they had a whole lot of babies that resulted from that! (the rhythm method involved counting the days of the month following the period). Again, NO! NO! Believe me, you don't want an unwanted pregnancy. You have no idea how much that can change your life.
Get some condoms, okay? Please?

You usually ovulate 10 to 14 days after the start of your period. That would probably put you right in your peak fertile time.

There's no way of knowing when it's a safe time. You can ovulate at a different time than usual because of stress, diet changes, etc. Also sperm can live for several days inside of you, so if you had sex on a "safe" day and three days later you ovulated, you could still get pregnant.

You need to get some birth control if you want to have sex. You can go to a clinic like plannned parenthood or a city or county health clinic and probably get your birth control for free if you don't have health insurance. There are lots of options...the pill is probably the most common. You have to remember to take it at the same time every day. The depo-provera shot protects you for three months. Lots of girls don't have periods while they're taking the shot, which is an added bonus. The doctor at the clinic can help you figure out what's best for you.

The only time you can become pregnant is when you ovulate. If you don't know when you ovulate (which most women don't and won't ever know), you need to use protection always to prevent unwanted pregnancies. For STDs, however, you need to use a condom every time. Even if you figure out when you ovulate, that day can change from month.

So to answer your question, no, you cannot have sex safely just because you just had your period.

Edit: Also, in reply to one of the posters, condoms are 85% effective, on average, at preventing pregnancy, not 65%.

No, its never safe to have sex without safety. Every women or young lady ovulates at different times. Some women can even ovulate during there periods. I learned this because I couldn't have a baby without the help of Dr.'s.
Baby's are hard work but having sex without safety could cause damage to your body to cause you not to be able to have kids. You should look up Sexual Transmitted Diseases also known as std. you can learn alot about the risk of having un safe sex by looking it up.

Don't ever have sex without protection, ever! Have you heard about AIDS and what that virus leads too? HIV? Not to mention Herpes and gonorrhea? I'm not trying to scare you but this is just a few things that you can get from unprotected sex. Besides the fact that if you get pregnant and you are infected with these things, you can pass it on to the child without even knowing. That would suck!! Just use protection ALWAYS

No-- you are heading into the most fertile time of your cycle.

Also, if you are going to have vaginal sex, with or without 'protection,' you should be able to come to terms with the fact that you might be responsible for a pregnancy.

You are also subjecting yourself to whatever STDs that person may (unwittingly) carry.

I personally don't consider it safe to have sex unless you are in a monogamous relationship that could handle the possibility of children.

Best wishes!

Haven't you heard of S.T.D.s? That stands for Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and you get them by having sex without a condom. Also, go back to school and learn how to speak properly so that you don't sound like an idiot.

Without protection you have a 70% of getting pregnant and a 100% of catching a std.

It is the most unsafe time. This is not a good idea about birth control. Anyway, if your partner isn't tested, don't even think of having unprotected sex
