When your vaginal area smells (like a strong odor) and it's not yeast smelling, it's kind of like, I don't know a mix of fishy and regular scent, do i have to go to the doctor or can I buy some over the counter medication for it? If so, what brand do you recommend?

I do NOT recommend douches...bcz they DESTROY the natural Ph levels of your tissue which can lead to more bad odor.
Try using a vaginal applicator (ask your pharmacist for one)...and fill it with plain yogurt and insert several when you're going to be prone (laying down --- so it doesn't run out)...like when you go to bed at night. Put a clean towel under you, and wear a pad, so if it does run out, it won't get on your clothes, you, or your bedding.
The yogurt will nutralize the Ph level in your vagina, and the odor should minimize. If not, you need to go see a Gynocologist. ("OB/GYN" doctor). I wouldn't buy anything over the counter....because they promise you the moon...and compromise the "Ph" level of your tissues anyway....just use the yogurt first.

The site I've included rocks! This is from the site...

"A bacterial infection of the vagina can feel a lot like a yeast infection if the vulva area is itchy or painful. Unlike a yeast infection, the discharge can be dark yellow, green, or brown. It won't smell like bread, but can smell like fish or something rotting, particularly after you have sex. If you think you might have a bacterial infection, or if you're not sure, get your diseased self to a doctor, sister. The main treatment is prescription antibiotics."

Hope this helps! =D

I would go to the doctor. Some things can look like a yeast infection, turn out to be worse, then you're infertile. I'm sure it's nothing, but better safe than sorry, right?

If you have a 'fishy' smell down there whether or not there is any hint of a normal smell... you need to go see your Dr. sounds like you have an STD. They won't cure themselves and you can't get anything from the drug store that will get rid of it.

If you're getting that smell after you have sex, that's not that uncommon, if it goes away after you shower. If it doesn't, see your doctor. If you can't afford to go to a doctor, go get checked out at planned parenthood or a city health clinic.

Go to a doctor. Sometimes what you eat can affect the smell, also.
